About The Bees
Nucs are a great way to get into beekeeping or just to grow your existing apiary. My nucs are mothered by queens grafted from my own bee yards. Each queen is judged for things like gentleness, brood production, buildup ability, honey production and hygienic behavior (self ability to manage mites). They are of no specific breed, just good quality queens.

A good queen bee will lay full frames of brood when the resources are available (nectar/pollen). After that, It doesn't take them long to start growing in population. With that said, these nucs will be very strong and ready to be transferred to a full size box once you get them home. This is a very simple task that I can explain at pickup if needed.
*Expected Pickup May 25th- June 20th (Weather Permitting)

What's included:

- 5 Deep frames (3 of which will be active brood frames in several stages, 1 frame will be food storage(honey/pollen), 1 frame will be eggs)

- 1 Laying Queen (Queen is marked)

- All 5 frames will be covered in bees (roughly 3 pounds of bees). I inspect nucs regularly before pickup to guarantee they are strong and healthy.

- 1 Wax Coated Nuc box for transporting (pictured above).

This video shows what my nucs look like the day they leave here.

***Cardboard nucs will be sealed to keep bees contained. These boxes have ventilation but I still recommend returning home without making stops after picking up. Make all stops before hand, such as getting fuel, stopping to eat, etc..

How This Works (Read Carefully):

1. By clicking "Pay Now" below, you will pay the Non-refundable deposit ($90 per nuc), the deposit reserves your order. The remaining $100 per nuc is paid at time of pickup. Paypal will provide you with a receipt after you pay deposit so watch your email for that. (Cash only at the time of pickup). If you would like to make other payment arrangements just email me and we will further discuss. honeycomb_hill@yahoo.com

2. Pick up of nucs will be outside of Martinsburg, OH (43037). Address will be provided when time comes. Expected pickup between May 20th - June 20th (dates depend on weather) **Nucs will NOT be shipped.

3. As pickup time arrives, you will be notified either by phone or email. I will work with you on pickup times but if you fail to pickup after 3 arranged dates, order is void.

4. In the case that I can not fulfill your order by June 20th, I will give you a complete refund of all money paid (refund of deposit). If you place an order do not expect a sooner pickup date than May 20th.

5. All orders will be filled in the order they come in.

6. Nuc is your responsibility once you leave from pickup. If you have questions or concerns of any kind feel free to email me honeycomb_hill@yahoo.com

Note: If you are just starting your first colony of bees, I recommend getting 2 nucs. The reason being is, it gives you something to compare with and resources from one may help the other at different times.

JC's Queen Rearing Series...A Guide To Raising Your Own Queen Honey Bees

As a beekeeper, the key to a sustainable apiary is genetics. Most all beekeepers know that the queen is he heart of the colony but do not know how important her genetics are. It's also important to work with genetics from your region. Every year southern beekeepers send 1000's of bee packages up to the northern states and each year, many of those same colonies dies because they are not used to the climate change. This Queen rearing Series will teach you how to raise your own queen bees from the very beginning of the process. Before you start though, check out and download my queen rearing calendar (Below). Making Wax Queen Cell Cups

As a beekeeper I like to be able to make what I need for my bees. By doing this I know what I am getting which is a plus in my book.  I would like to teach you how to make your own wax cups to raise your queen bees in. This is not a difficult task but it can get messy if your not careful. Whats needed to complete wax cups: 1. 100% Pure bees wax melted 2. 5/16 dowel rod About 6" long 3. A cup of cold water 4. Sandpaper or sander 5. 1 Jz-Bz plastic queen cup We will start by shaping the tip of the dowel rod. You need to round the tip somewhat and bevel in the sides. It needs to look like the bottom of a cell (nicely rounded). The bees will reject anything they do not like. Just remember practices makes perfect, right? If you fail try something a little different.  Spend some time shaping the end of your dowel with sandpaper or electric sander. Just don't take off to much. Use your  Jz-Bz queen cup for a reference  on the size. Once you get...
